Day 1
Our first stop will be in Fort Smith, Arkansas at Miss Laura's Visitor Center. It is housed in a former Bordello, the first to be placed on the National Register of Historic Places. Miss Laura will be in period costume and give us a guided tour of the historic old hotel. Next we will take a step back in time with a visit to the Fort Smith National Historic Site. It is located on the very spot overlooking the Arkansas River where the first military outpost was built in 1917. On the grounds nearby is a replica of the famed gallows where 80 men were ordered hanged by "Hangin' Judge", Isaac Parker. Our final stop will be a dinner theatre. Miss Laura's Players perform, "The Medicine Show". This will be a lot of fun.
Day 2
We will be leaving Fort Smith and going to Bentonville and Fayetteville today. Our first stop will be Terra Studios. We will watch glassworkers create the now famous Bluebird of Happiness, and we will explore the pottery showroom. Next we will visit the Peel Mansion. Colonel Samuel West Peel built a marvelous villa tower Italianate Mansion. The Peel Mansion site is also an outdoor museum of historic roses, perennials and native plants. We will also be having lunch at the Mansion. After lunch we will go to downtown Bentonville where we will visit Walton's five & ten cent store. The Wal-Mart Visitors Center is located in the building that was the very first Wal-Mart. Next we will visit the beautiful and tranquil Mildred B. Cooper Memorial Chapel. What makes it so impressive is not just its lofty height, or the massive wooden doors, or even the arches upon arches, but the way that any building could so seamlessly fit into the natural scene. From here we will go to the Daisy Factory & Museum.
Day 3
Today it is time for us to leave for home, but not before a stop at The Botanical Garden of the Ozarks.
