Day 1

No trip to Dallas would be complete without a visit to South Fork Ranch. So that is where we will start. For 13 years television sets were tuned into 356 episodes of "Dallas". Today, Southfork continues to welcome visitors from around the world, who come to see where "Dallas" was filmed and to experience the lifestyle made famous by the Ewing's. We will tour the famed Ewing Mansion and re-live exciting moments from the series in the "Dallas Legends" exhibit. Lunch will be a Chuck Wagon style meal, complete with singing cowboys. From there we will go to the Dallas Arboretum. In the early 1930's Everette DeGolyer chaired a committee to find a landsite for an Arboretum. Sixty years later the concept of a Botanical Preserve is a reality on the very land he once owned. This is a glorious 66 acres located on the White Rock Lake. We will be there for what they say is the best season, fall. And, last but not least, is the State Fair of Texas. The history of the fair is traced back to1886. Did you know the fair was originally privately owned? In 1925 the Music Hall was built. The Fair Park Stadium (later re-named the Cotton Bowl) was built in 1929. In 1935 a $25 million dollar project transformed the fairgrounds in time for the 1936 Texas Centennial. The 1950's was when Big Tex made his first appearance. You will have time at the fair to wander the grounds, see the exhibits, and have dinner on your own. By the time we leave Dallas we will all know why it is called "Big D".
