Day 1
Today we head out west in search of the Sonora Desert. Our first night will be in Van Horn, Texas, better known as "The Crossroads of the Texas Mountain Trail."
Day 2
We will visit the Pima Air Museum. It is one of the largest aviation museums in the world, and the largest non-government funded aviation museum in the United States. From there we will check in at our hotel, the Desert Diamond Casino and Hotel. Next we will go to the Trail Dust Town. It has been a Tucson landmark for over forty years. Originally constructed as a movie set, it features wooden boardwalks, red brick streets, an old fashioned town square and centerpiece gazebo. While we are there we will eat at the home of the world famous cowboy steak, Pinnacle Peak Steak House.
Day 3
We will leave Tucson this morning and head for Mesa. We will stop by the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. It is a world-renowned zoo, natural history museum and botanical garden, all in one place. This should give us a good introduction in to the Sonoran Desert Region. We will have dinner at the Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre.
Day 4
Our first stop of the day is the Orange Patch. We will be greeted with a cup of freshly squeezed orange juice. We will get to see the processing plant. And of course, no visit is complete without a visit to their store. From here we will go to the Arizona Museum of Natural History. It is dedicated to inspire wonder, respect, and understanding for the natural and cultural history of the Southwest. We will go to the Organ Stop Pizza. It is home to "The Mighty Wurlitzer." It is one of the largest and finest theatre organs in the world. Its nearly 6,000 pipes are masterfully presented by the Musical Staff, who are world class musicians. We will get all of that and Pizza, too.
Day 5
Today is the day that we leave Arizona and head for home, but we still have new things to see and do on the way. Our first stop will be at the Queen Creek Olive Mill. It is ArizonaŐs only working olive farm and mill. We will be given a tour that will educate us on Olive Oil, the different varieties of olives grown around the world, and types grown here. While at the mill we can taste and buy fine wines, shop for local and imported products, and unique gifts. Next, we will visit Rooster CogburnŐs Ostrich Ranch. We will climb aboard the Monster Truck for a 40 minute entertaining and informative tour through the ostrich ranch and desert. We will see breeding camps, view an ostrich egg nest, feel and learn about the eggs, and see chick rearing barns. We will enjoy breathtaking views while we learn about the Saguaro Cactus, the Sonoran Desert, and the history of Picacho Peak. We will visit the Rainbow Lorikeet Forest. It is a 5,000 square foot tropical paradise in the Desert. The Rainbow Lorikeets are true parrots. They have almost every color of the rainbow in their feathers. These beautiful birds come to you and eat nectar right out of a cup in your hands. This will be spectacular so be sure and bring your camera.
Day 6
We will be in Odessa Texas today, where the sky, literally, is the only limit. We will pay a visit to Jack Ben Rabbit, the "World's Largest Jack Rabbit".
Day 7
Today we will be back at home, but we had fun!
